Topic: “Hearing Chords Better”

This is an aural clinic that focuses on improving one’s ability to hear, sing, identify, and compose chord voicings and harmonic progressions of an advanced nature.

My students have repeatedly asked me to help them to hear chords better, as a way of improving their ability to respond in the moment when improvising with other musicians on the bandstand to what’s being played. Getting a grasp on hearing chords better increases one’s sense of freedom, confidence, and knowing how to process unfamiliar chords with more ease and poise.

•Non-triads (a.k.a. Trichords)
•Harmonic composition
•Voice leading and part-singing of harmonic progressions
•Aural recognition and vertical vocal arpeggiation of chords
•Whatever else comes up in questions asked by students during the clinic.
